Arranging a Funeral

Helping our Ummah pass on to the Ākhirah (hereafter) with dignity.
Organising a funeral is never easy – especially when family members are relying on you and you’re not sure where to start. At Eternal Gardens, we are always on hand, supporting and guiding you every step of the way. With years of expertise, our dedicated, empathetic team have supported many families like yours for over a decade, helping them make the right decision for their loved ones.

We understand that passing can happen at any time and so we offer same day burials alongside a 24/7 helpline (0800 211 8569) where a member of our team will always answer.

With Muslim funerals usually taking place between 24-48 hours after passing, families often face a chaotic funeral process – especially when faced with a lack of experience, information or inadequate support.

At Eternal Gardens, we help family members navigate this tricky time and have formed a structured service to ensure a unique atmosphere of calm and reflection during the Janazah.

We provide an Imam who performs the scholarly-approved Janazah Salah, which supports all four schools of Sunni, however you are welcome to bring your own Imam or have a family member leading the prayers. The lead member will conduct the service to provide an orderly, dignified and guided procession that puts family first.

Families are consulted in advance to ensure their wishes are understood. During the funeral process, our team members take the lead to ensure they are given the space and opportunity to participate in all rituals before the burial.

We promise to always provide you and your family with a personalised service in a deen-oriented and caring environment. We’ll remain by your side throughout the funeral service – and we’ll be there to help guide you through the grieving process whenever you need extra support afterwards.

Shariah-compliant

We all want to ensure our loved ones’ final rites are carried out according to Shariah. That’s why we consult with The Olive Foundation, which allows us to review all practices, processes and options with a highly qualified Ulama. Scholarly approved, allowing us to be Shariah-compliant ensuring best Islamic practice.

Our Park

Established in 2013, Eternal Gardens, Sidcup is our flagship site. Located within the serene, natural grounds previously known as Kemnal Manor, the park has an air of calm, dignity and peace. The perfect Islamic, Sunnah environment for our loved ones who have passed as well as for visiting families. We have taken great care in ensuring our families are comfortable and achieve ultimate convenience allowing them to focus on praying and reflecting over their loved ones.

On-site you will find:

  •  Prayer / Reflection room for Brothers and Sisters
  •  Washroom / Wudhu facilities
  •  Support team for any queries and concerns
  •  Watering locations within each section of the plots
  •  Footwear cleaners
  •  On-site parking with roadways around the park to allow drop off and accessibility for those with limited ability to walk long distances
  • Outdoor Janazah bench to allow families to perform the funeral prayer within a natural serene setting
  • Bins to ensure we care for the environment and protect the natural wildlife that Allah has blessed us with [Islam places a great emphasis on caring for all things and respecting other creatures. Plastics and other waste can cause great harm to the local wildlife. Whilst treating these animals with care can become a source of Sadaqa, harming them could lead to our punishment. Please dispose of waste appropriately.]

Burial Options

We will support you every step of the way, offering families choice as well as a variety of funeral options. Whether you’re looking for a traditional grave, a premium grave, or a family garden for their final resting place. We have options that are all carefully considered within the Islamic faith and will cater for your loved one’s final wishes. There are no hidden add-ons and all of our options include the plot, burial, service and grave plaque.

For those on low income, Eternal Gardens have a La-Warith service in which we have partnered with 13 Rivers Trust in support of The Muslim Burial Fund to offer assistance and support to reverts and Muslims in meeting burial costs. A dedicated set of low-cost burial plots have been implemented for vulnerable cases. There are certain criteria to be eligible, please enquire by emailing [email protected].

Whilst we can’t recommend a funeral director, we do have a list of all local funeral directors that we have worked with. We can provide a full Islamic burial service; however, you are welcome to choose a burial with the service at a mosque.

In line with Shariah law, all graves at Eternal Gardens are uniform, natural, simple and sunnah. All burial plots are in soft virgin ground and are raised to form a small mount which is covered with grass-seed matting. All graves are aligned in facing the direction of Mecca with beautifully simple plaques placed on top of graves. Whilst all adult graves are identical in sizing, we do have different plot types which are listed below.

Burial Spacing Crisis

As part of our solutions to alleviate the burial space crisis affecting our community, we have invested several years of research into developing our Duo Graves Fatwa, the first duo-burial Islamic model (two separate and distinctive compartments within one plot of land) to be accepted by the Shariah board in London, Alhamdulillah!

In compliance with Islamic Law, all Eternal Gardens graves are excavated sufficiently deep to accommodate the spacious burial of two people. This may be useful for families wishing for loved ones to be buried close together and for a charitable donation of a grave.
